How many tapes do you make per release?
Currently, we do small (25) and medium (50-75) tape runs depending on the artist’s needs. Every tape is recorded, printed, assembled, and shipped by us.
What equipment do you use?
All tapes are recorded in real time using TASCAM and Sony cassette decks.
How does this label stuff work?
Artists retain full rights to their music. Death by Download was created as a medium to distribute and promote various artists’ music via one of the most creative and accessible formats ever made. Great music should have great merch.
Artists receive 40% of sales OR 40% of tapes (rounded up) for free to sell themselves; it’s up to you, the artist. We’re also able to duplicate additional tapes if interested. These will be exclusively yours to sell outside of our site.
Duplication services??
Death by Download offers duplication services for artists who would like to order duplicated tapes for their project. These will not be sold via our label unless a special agreement is made. For duplication services, we require an order minimum of 25 cassettes and a maximum of 100. The option to order a sample tape before the total completion of your order is also available and highly advised. This is to ensure you’re satisfied with your cassettes’ audio and overall look. Sample tapes are $5 (which covers the shipping cost) regardless of complexity. Check Yes to the “sample tape” option when ordering your tapes via the Duplication tab.
